  • Seems to work here, thanks for the fix, appreciated!

  • Same problem here, doesn’t work in Chrome or Safari.

Cannot paste addresses into the Google map field but can on one site that is still running 4.4.3

This is not good and needs to be fixed asap as I’ve paid for ACF Pro and not being able to paste values in 5.3.2.2 is a backwards step.

  • @qwik3r I cannot believe your post hasn’t even been read, let alone addressed.

We have had the same issue when upgrading from 4 to 5 Pro, i.e. loads of duplicated fields although not all fields were duplicated. Some were, some weren’t.

We spent a whole day on this yesterday and had to give up as the process is clearly flawed and cannot be trusted.

So for now we will stick with 4 🙁

We’re really disappointed as the time we wasted yesterday is lost and can never be brought back into our lives. Our time wasted on updating far outweighs the value of the add-ons we purchased.

  • All of the problems are similar the ones we had and we had to adapt the CSV generated by the form software we use to collect data (machform) and even then we have to import data in small amounts.

It was a nightmare experience and one I hope to never have to go through again. And, the worst part was it cost us a lot of time worth more than the price of the product!

On the face of it, without having put version 4 through its paces yet, it does seem to be a better interface than previously but I do hope the improvements are not just cosmetic because WPAI was by far the buggiest and most costly premium plugin we purchased.

p.s. even expert WP developers we know had trouble with it!

  • Hube2, now you’ve got me worried! It might mean we’ll have to go through the 3 weeks of utter hell again!

According to this post it has been dramatically improved:

    http://www.wpallimport.com/2014/11/whats-new-4-0/

Have you contacted WPAI support with your issues?

  • Hube, we eventually got it to work but I dread upgrading!

Just out of interest, which versions of WPAI are you using?

  • 5 days? You were lucky, we spent 3 weeks! It was by far THE most horrible WordPress experience we’ve encountered.

Perhaps they’ve improved importing from CSV files and we shall find out soon as we’ve upgraded recently – had to repurchase the ACF add-on at an inflated cost compared with old price, so it had better be good!

  • @flyingant – as I said, we were able to use the plugin to import to repeater fields but it took a long time back and forth with the plugin’s devs. It took us over 3 weeks testing, recording screenshots, reporting and effectively beta testing their product for them!

The cost of those 3 weeks massively outweighed the cost of the plugin!

It has the distinction of being equally the best and worst premium plugin we have ever used.

I have urged Elliot to develop his own importation add-on specifically for ACF as I feel it would be in better hands, and could be lucrative for him too.

  • We have had success importing repeater fields using their ACF add-on but it was a HUGE struggle. Not our favourite plugin, I must say.

  • @dirtyharry Avoid Smackcoders, it doesn’t support repeater fields and photos.

WPAI has an add-on for ACF and works well but not without a struggle! That said, they seem to have fixed most of the bugs that were causing us problems.

It’s fiddly and clunky to use, so tread carefully!

  • @brianartka I am really keen to know if you can get Smackcoders’ plugin to work with ACF, especially repeaters and photos.

  • We looked at Smackcoders too but at the time it couldn’t import photos.

    Have you tried this one?

    http://www.wpallimport.com/

    They have an ACF add-on.

  • I would steer well clear of using Gravity Forms in this way as it such a faff!

Better to build your own front end posting directly into ACF.

  • Well this is interesting folks, I just looked at the WP All Import site and they have an ACF add on:

    http://www.wpallimport.com/advanced-custom-fields/

It doesn’t seem to included in their purchase page:

    http://www.wpallimport.com/order-now/

And it doesn’t seem to be mentioned in their support docs either.

    I guess it’s a start though!

  • @Elliot Any plans to develop a csv importer tool specifically for ACF, or even publishing a document on ‘how to’ ?

I’ve noticed that Woo has created an importer for their Woo Commerce product:

    http://www.woothemes.com/products/product-csv-import-suite/

    Nice price too 😉

I would have no qualms lining your palms with a similar amount 😉

And WP Types explains the ins and outs here:

    http://wp-types.com/documentation/user-guides/how-to-import-content-into-wordpress-using-csv/

We have tried, unsuccessfully, using the WP All Import plugin and some of the others seem a bit flaky at best.

  • @codynew how did you manage to map checkbox fields? our csv export from a form creates a column for each checkbox value with ‘checked’ as the value. Not very helpful, I know, but we have no control over it.

  • @mortenskyt

Quick question: does your map field save the data I enter? In other words, when I enter an address and save the post, will the address I entered remain?

The reason I ask is because on testing the current location field anything I enter is replaced with the default co-ordinates for Paris!

My expectation is very basic: I enter an address and hit enter, a map is plotted with the correct location and I save the post. When I return to the post the details I actually entered and saved are, well, actually saved!

Paris is great, but it’s not appropriate to show a map of Paris when I want to show a map of Gloucestershire in England.

If your add-on can serve this particular need then I’ll give it a go.

  • Having the same issue too.

We have set up various custom taxonomies for which we are planning to use the ACF interface to interact with, and not the native metaboxes that appear in the sidebar of the edit screen which will become redundant for our purposes.

Yes, we can hide these using the screen options panel but this is not ideal because clients can find this and switch them on, therefore causing potential headaches all round!

It would be such a great feature to be able to remove these from the ‘options’ panel when creating a field group in ACF.

I guess it’s a simple case of ACF being able to read the custom taxonomies we’ve set up for our custom post type, or depending on whatever location rule has been set, and then showing them with checkboxes in the ‘Hide On Screen’ option panel?

  • Yep, I’m having same problem. I guess part of the problem is to do with my expectations because the Location add-on appears within my admin section for ACF’s other premium add ons, with an explicit button marked ‘download’.

I actually installed the Location plugin like any other plugin via WP but with the notable exception that it doesn’t actually work!

I just wish devs would keep up with this as it just wastes everyone’s time.

Yeah, I know it’s free but my time isn’t free 😉

Anyway, here’s hoping Elliot will take it under his wing and include it in ACF, or even better and package it up as a premium add-on?

    I’d certainly buy it 😉

  • Excellent news, Elliot.

This has huge potential I feel for having even more granular control over the layout of pages.

Any timescale when this field type might be made available?

    Cheers!
