Field Type : Widget

Flexible field addon is really incredible.
My feature suggestion is a widget field type. Users can choose one of widget like they using them in sidebars & we can display it using widget api: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/the_widget

I know its probably impossible but just think if its possible, how can it create a whole different usage of widget system in content fields.

I started a widget add-on a while back, but never finished it. When I hit some spare time, I’ll be sure to look into it again!

Sorry, just want to clarify that means you are still planning on doing the Widget add-on you speak of here, http://old.support.advancedcustomfields.com/discussion/6147/acf-widgets-add-on/p1 ?

That would be epic if so! Widgets are still often either a pain to customize or a pain for low tech clients who have to fumble around with code if you don’t customize widgets for them. Having widgets with ACFs in them instead would be huge!

Yes, in the near future, I will return my attention to this field.

The idea is that you can register a WP widget as per normal, but then seelct an option that allows it to show an ACF field group on it. This way you can customize the fields available for a widget!

Excellent news, Elliot.

This has huge potential I feel for having even more granular control over the layout of pages.

Any timescale when this field type might be made available?
