  • Alright, RESOLVED.

I wasn’t aware of the “Layout” type fields that could be added to a field group, and which address what I’m asking for by letting me mix for example the “Message” field type into my forms.

By using those fields, I’m able to add a “description” at the top of my field group to explain things to users.

Hopefully this embarrassing post will help someone else in the future who’s googling for a way to add a “description” to a group.

  • Hi Rob, thanks for the reply.

Ahhhh! I wasn’t sure what you meant, but now I see there are several “Layout” type fields that offer what I’m looking for!

Thanks so much, I feel a bit silly, but hopefully my post(s) (there’s another one about this) will help someone in the future to find this feature.

  • Actually I don’t know what’s happening exactly, but based on WP Core Trac, the export and import of term meta was added in WP 2016:

    https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/34062

When I tried an export that included a term with meta, it seemed to work (see attached).

So not sure why the original poster was having problems, but the answer probably could have been “it should work”.

Yay for WP core solving this already!

  • Just want to second the motion that this behavior is indeed part of ACF’s problem set: If ACF adds the metadata, it’s reasonable to think that ACF would also ensure it gets imported and exported.

Obviously you can offload this to someone else, but solving it for users would make it a nice integrated experience.

  • This seems to have been added, and now appears in the “Description
    Shown in field group list”.

What I’m looking for is a way to have a “Description” for the group that shows up among the actual fields on the post edit screen. It would be nice to contextualize for users what to expect from the overall box, separate from the descriptions of the individual fields.
