  • Hi JasperV
That is exactly what i was looking for! Thank you :^)

  • Anyone know if this is doable?

It looks like this post wasn’t read yet but i did have a weird issue when i posted it (it threw an error saying it was a duplicate post and i only just now stumbled across the fact it has turned up!)

Surely i can check a value outside of a block and use it to alter the block?

  • Just a quick one to say, the latest beta update 4.1 fixed this issue! :^)

  • Ah ok well that’s good to know!

I’ve not, no but i will do that right now. Thanks!

  • Hi timmy28x,

Thanks for that! Every bit of input helps :^)

Ok so, i tried a few more things. I tried doing the callback as a function rather than a php template, which made no difference! BUT then i thought, i wonder if you were using a previous beta as…i kind of got the impression you had a bit of experience with this!

So i tried swapping over to Beta 3 and it works! Content is updating as i’d expect. Which leads me to believe (after literally commenting out all of my code and checking function by function to see if anything was breaking stuff!) that this is an odd issue with Beta 4!

Can you confirm which version you’re using?

  • +1 Same boat as djme

I also have clients asking about the Block Editor and it’s difficult, especially with the larger clients, to reply “I don’t know!” when asked about a timescale for converting everything to the new editor.

ACF has become such an important part of what i do on a daily basis so i have no intention of taking a different route unless absolutely necessary.

I’m definitely keen to see a beta 4 for 5.8 and like djme, am keen to see some reassurance that the approach being taken with ACF blocks is sustainable in the long term.

    Cheers,
    Dan.

  • Hi redvolver,

In the case of the site i was working on, it had over 400 pages that had been experimented on by the user, so having to to through and save every single page was not something i wanted to have to do.

I’ll try it out on something less huge though :^)

  • A little while later and i take back my original assessment of https://github.com/jameswburke/acf-cleaner

It does flag up some items that are still in use (it doesn’t seem to get along with flexible content fields) but if you take care with your field names (and so know which ones are still in use) this seems to be the best solution for now.

You have to delete ONE at a time, and wait for a refresh of the screen which is tedious and if you manually install you need to rename the plugin folder to just “acf-cleaner” or it fails to load the script it needs to work. But with no official solution, this at least works!

  • +1

This really does need an official solution.

I’ve just tested https://github.com/jameswburke/acf-cleaner on a local site and it’s definitely NOT a good solution!
The deletion process is very tedious and it doesn’t seem to play well with flexible content fields, marking mine as empty even though most of the site is made up of them! Oh well… the wait continues!
