I always meant to ask you this:
Do you appreciate your fictional characters?
It is an odd question, but after a long talk with a sister she said "so all those character you have, do you feel like a parent or something?" I laughed at first but then it struck me.
Yes, somehow, we created them, and raise them through the events *or kill them*, however in the end we always end up being proud of them and what they achieved.
I only worked on two book: the first is a fantasy book, and a slice of life love story so I don't have a lot of experience.
My first character is Cecelia, so let me tell you a small story, I used to live with my grandmother, and as far as I recall, every Thursday she would take me to a small art exhibition, it was of a local old man, at that place I found the painting he named Cecelia, it was of a woman in the 20s or so, with long platinum hair and round sapphire blue eyes, her skin was drawn to emphasize that it is smooth as silk dressed in a long white and gold dress, on her face a small innocent yet charming smile...
My grandmother would stare and stare at it, with a charmed face and always tell me how beautiful she is.
After my grandmother died, I went to the man, and I asked him if he could sell me the picture, but he said "would you sell love?"
At that time, I was about 12 so I didn't understand, so he just patted me and walked away.
After that day, I would always see dreams about that woman....after three years, I went to the old man again and asked him who is she?
He sighed and said just someone, if you are that interested in her, make someone like her.
To me it was impossible, at that time, the only thing that was in my head is the mysterious woman named Cecelia, and thus I fell in love with a picture and started writing about it.
And to say, I'm happy I grow with my characters as much as they grow with me, what about you?
