Voodoo for Google Maps on local dev server?

I’m probably doing it all wrong, but: what flaming hoops does one have to jump through to get an ACF Google maps field to display in the backend?
I set up the API project on Google, with or without referrers, tried both ways of adding the API to ACF in function.php, and had nothing but the dreaded ApiNotActivatedMapError for hours now.

I’m working on a Pressmatic *.local URL with a self-signed SSL – could that be the cause of this rather frustrating afternoon?

It seems the issue is related to Google Maps API. This page should give you more idea about it: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/error-messages#deverrorcode.

For further support, could you please visit Google Map community instead?

Hi James,
I indeed found the solution, by following the WPGmaps guide, which thankfully is a bit more detailed than ACP’s somewhat sparse “you have to register the API” 🙂
