v5.3.3.1 Bricks WP on Activation

I don’t really have an error message other than the website stops responding when I try to activate the 5.3.3.1.

When I rename the directory for 5.3.3.1 the plugin is automatically disabled and I can access the site again. 5.3.3 does not have the same problem.

This happens on a Dreamhost install but not locally on my Vagrant box — both with the latest WP. I wish I could give you more info.

I’ve just tested it on my installation but I couldn’t reproduce this issue. Could you please try to reproduce the issue on one of the WordPress’ stock themes (like Twenty Fifteen) with other plugins deactivated? If the issue disappears, then you can activate the theme and plugins one by one to see which one causes the issue.
