Update/Preview button not working when no Gutenberg blocks are used (only ACFs)

  • I’m running version 1.0.61 with WordPress 5.4.2 and am in the process of updating a clients’ site to use the Gutenberg editor for laying out some of his pages.

On the pages which don’t actually need any content adding (the content is already in the custom fields so there are no Gutenberg blocks on the page) I find that when editing the custom field the WordPress ‘Update’ and ‘Preview’ buttons remain inactive – there’s actually no way to save my changes.

I’ve found that if I add a single paragraph block and put a single space in it, the button becomes active and I can save my changes.

If I remove the block with the space in it, the ‘Update/Preview’ buttons again become inactive so I’m now stuck with a block with a space in it!

Any ideas how to get around this issue?

  • No-one else having this problem?

  • Oh. Never mind then.
