Taxonomy Field broken with update_field()

When I use update_field() on a Taxonomy field from code, it doesn’t work.

The field integer is updated, but I can no longer retrieve it as a WP Term Object.

I also tried saving it with the ACF ‘field_’ unique name, but that doesn’t work either.
