Removing link from slider "breaks" page

I am helping a friend with his site and there is an issue I can’t manage to solve: In one of the pages, I am trying to remove a link to Vimeo from a slider and replace it with an image. But when I try to remove the link or replace it with an image, the page appears empty.

Any ideas on what can cause this and more important – how to solve it?

a white screen generally indicates a syntax error in PHP.
