Referencing an ACF that is attached to a slide

Hello! I have searched and searched, yet have not found a solution for my issue.

I created an ACF for my slides, editable when you are creating or editing an individual slide. It is a dropdown selector with 3 options to align the overlay.

In my partial I wrap the code with a div that will align the overlay based on it’s class (chosen by the ACF selector)

The issue I am having is that I cannot figure out how to get the php code to look for my ‘overlay_position’ field on the active slide. By default it looks on the current page, which of course does not work.
