Output text as one word or with dashes

Apologies if the title could be better, trying to come up with the terminology but wondered if it’s possible to take a text field which has;

Manchester United FC

Inputted into it, but get it to output as;

manchester-united-fc

Thanks in advance, I’m racking my brains trying to come up with something!

you could probably write your own code to do it, but WP already has a function https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/sanitize_title
