Graceful fallback for custom field type?

Howdy,

I recently created a private plugin that adds a new field type which is a small improvement on the Image field type that includes a couple of additional settings and options.

I’d like to know if there’s a recommended way to ensure that my project can still work if my plugin is disabled, perhaps with each of my new field types reverting back to just a default Image field?

Any pointers or suggestions would be much appreciated!
