Hi,
Pretty much every Google Maps service needs an API key now, so how is the Google Maps field able to load a map without me inputting a key? I ask because I intend to use an ACF Google Map on the front end of a site, and I want to ensure that I won’t run into any issues.
Thanks.
Hi @brian1037
No worries it will work just fine! you don’t need to use any key as seen in the example code of the documentation.
https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.exp&sensor=false
However since you input the maps api yourself in the frontend (ACF will not do this for you) you can just use it with your key if you like.
Well, you need to use a proper key now and this field doesn’t work any more 🙁
This service requires an API key. For more information on authentication and Google Maps Javascript API services please see: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/get-api-key
Yes as of 22 June 2016 all google maps API require a key.
When this topic was posted it was not necessary however.
I’ll ask Elliot about this and see what his solution is. It’ll probably become a settings field in ACF to supply your API key for using the maps fields.
Hi,
Yes this will be resolved (you’ll be able to provide your own api key) in the next version 5.5 which is in it’s final stage.
I don’t have an exact date when it’ll be released but any day now 🙂
Hi all, I saw that the changelog of the latest version of ACF PRO (5.3.10) indicates that a new setting field has been added to include Google Maps API keys. I’m super excited to see that this has been addressed…but also a little confused. Perhaps this new setting is right in front of my eyes…but I can’t find it.
Anyone have a clue where this might be located?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks @ajhisbrill, I guess I thought I saw a reference to this setting already being included as a UI element, but I guess I believe I was mistaken.
In any case, the latest versions of ACF & ACF PRO have a new filter included and this solves things for me.
Here’s the new documentation:

Thanks to the ACF team for getting this pushed out!
Hi,
Oddly I thought the Google map API key would be added as an input in ACFs settings. It still might but in the meantime thank you @rpetersnmt for linking to the filter 🙂
