Field type File breaks PDF document

I have a field type File, and the return type is set to URL. When I upload a PDF file directly through the field, it breaks the PDF file(strange lines appear in the PDF). However, if I upload the same file through the media, and THEN just select it from the ACF field it works fine.
Any ideas?

I have found it is not the ACF, but the upload of the file itself. It is probably a WP problem of some kind.
