field required only for specified role

I have an ACF field (on a custom post type) that should be required for one role, but optional for another role, from within WP admin. How can this be implemented?

Set the field to not required and then create and acf/validate_value filter https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/resources/acf-validate_value/ to test the field dependent on what the user role is.
