Distributing ACF/Updates

  • I wish to use ACF PRO in one of my premium themes.

I have read the article “Distributing ACF in a plugin / theme” but I don’t want to be in a position where users of my theme have to contact me so I can update their ACF plugin. Everytime a new version of ACF is available will this show as a ‘to do’ action on their WordPress admin panel…?

If so is there anyway around this? Maybe using http://tgmpluginactivation.com/ and having the plugin on my server for the plugin update which I can update as and when needed?

I haven’t tried http://tgmpluginactivation.com/ – if it is a requirement for this that ACF is on a public facing server would that cause any licence issue?

ACF is a great plugin – just want to get the updates figured out before developing a theme using ACF.

  • You’re probably not going to get this question answered on this forum. You should submit a new ticket http://support.advancedcustomfields.com/new-ticket/ or send an email to [email protected]. What I do know is that you can distribute ACF Pro in a premium plugin, it cannot be publicly accessible, and I do know that you cannot distribute your license key with it. Basically it would be your responsibility to update ACF and put updates of your theme to your users.
