Solved

Custom post type archive defaults to archive.php and NOT arhive-postype.php.

  • I have a custom post type called ‘Artists’.
When I view the archive page for this post type, the WordPress template used is archive.php

I want to use a custom archive template, so I created archive-artists.php

No matter what I try, the archive page NEVER uses the custom template, but defaults only to archive.php

Any suggestions as to why it won’t use my custom archive template? How do I get it to use archive-artists.php ?

  • Hi @lowercase

This is not an issue with the ACF plugin. The archive template is part of the WP core, so this question would be best asked on a WP forum such as stack overflow.

My first guess is that your post type is called ‘artist’, not ‘artists’. So perhaps you can double check what your post type name is called and correct any spelling mistake in your template file name?

    Good luck,

    Thanks
    E
