Create related field for car year model make

Hello I want to create a way to filter cars and equipment by model and make.
Is that possible to create a parenct category with car manufacturer and subcategory for model (filtered by the main category, showing only models related to the parent selected). What do you reccomend what is the best way to achieve this? Thank you any help appreciated.
