The WordPress core will include the CodeMirror editor in version 4.9 which will be released next week:

The code editor will be used in various WordPress admin areas, but there is also an API that will make it easy to natively include and use CodeMirror with plug-ins.
Now is a great time to create a new “Code” field in ACF.
You should probably submit a new support ticket with this so that it is brought to the attention of the developer https://support.advancedcustomfields.com/new-ticket/. Pretty sure that if WP supports CodeMirror natively that we can expect to see an ACF field that uses it at some point.
I submitted a new ticket and Elliot replied that he’ll consider adding it in a future version. 🙂
I was also playing around with the new WordPress code editor in the Customizer and it works pretty good, I love that there’s also support for real-time code linting.
I too would like to see this supported by ACF, I have always wanted to be able to give some admins the ability to add code to a site other than a simple textarea field. But the support for the existing code field add ons in not as good as I would like. Probably the only way I would ever trust using a field like this is if it’s built into ACF.
Yeah, after I published my thread I noticed that a “-2” was added to the end of the page URL slug, so I naturally got curious, removed the “-2” and found your original thread from 2014. 🙂
I guess that 2018 would finally be the year that ACF would get a native code field. Fingers crossed.
