< character in Instructions field breaks Flexible Content

When I add a < character (opening tag / less-than sign) to the Instructions field of a Text Area field that is part of a Flexible Content Layout, the Flexible Content fields are no longer displayed in the admin pages for the respective content types and the Add row button isn’t shown either.

I wanted to give the editors an instruction with an example about pasting an iframe based embed code into a Text Area. The text said: It starts with <iframe src=”https://www.google.com/maps/d/embed?mid=, but saving it broke the Flexible Content. Removing the < character of the iframe tag fixed it.
