Chained taxonomy select

  • I need to have a chained car selector, so if you select in the first selector the car brand, e.g. Volkswagen, the next selector have to show the brand types, e.g. Golf & Polo etc. (for example: http://www.autotrack.nl/)

I wanted to make it with a custom taxonomy with as main taxonomies the brands, and as subtaxonomy the car types. Like this

I couldn’t create it yet.. Hopefully it is possible!

  • Hi @wietseneven

This is possible, but will not be an easy task.

Creating your own field type is quite easy. Here is a link to get you started:
    http://www.advancedcustomfields.com/resources/tutorials/creating-a-new-field-type/

What you need to do is either create a new field type which has 2 select fields, or just use 2 normal select fields to hold the data.

You can set the default choices to nothing which will give you blank select fields to work with.

Then, you can use jQuery to populate the select fields on load and when a change is detected on the select?

    Does that help?

  • Hi Wietseneven.

Did you manage to get your solution for this? If so, are you able to share – or provide an example of the code you used?

I need a similar solution for State > Local Government Area > City/Town > Postcode

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,
has someone found a solution? I need the same mechanism, I use ACF+Search&Filter plugins.
