ACF Returns Error 500 After Upgrading to 4.1.8.1

  • Hello,

I’m using WordPress 3.5.2 and just upgraded Advanced Custom Fields from 4.1.8 to 4.1.8.1. When viewing the site, there’s now a Reload and a More button. The More button reveals this text:

    – – –

The website encountered an error while retrieving [website_url]. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

    Error code: 500

    – – –

Do you know how to revert ACF to its previous version with either a file or database change, or how to resolve the issue?

    Thanks,
    Tevan

  • Hi @tevan

You can always find previous version of ACF here:

    http://wordpress.org/plugins/advanced-custom-fields/developers/

You can use FTP to delete the ACF plugin, and then re-upload the older one.

As for the issue itself, it sounds like your site has gone into maintenance mode and then crashed. Did you update any other plugins or the WP core?

  • Hello @elliot,

Thank you for your quick reply. Deleting the ACF plugin files didn’t restore the site, but restoring the database plus the plugin files did restore the site.

(It’s possible that solely restoring the database to its previous state would have allowed the site to be accessible again.)

For your future reference, only ACF was updated from 4.1.8 to 4.1.8.1; WordPress and other plugins were all up-to-date before the ACF update.

The site is up now, and we’ll determine if there was a conflict with another WordPress plugin, or if there’s code specific to the ACF 4.1.8.1 update that conflicted with the custom WordPress theme.

Updating ACF from 4.1.8 to 4.1.8.1 on another website proved successful.

    Thanks again,
    Tevan
