Hi!
I’m playing with ACF on my local environment after I read https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/blog/the-state-of-acf-in-a-gutenberg-world/. With the example code, I tried to get a new blog going, but can’t seem to select the location “block”. It does not appear in the list.
Looks like the function acf_register_block does not exist in both free and paid version (5.7.2). Also, I didn’t get prompt to update my DB.
Anything I can do? I guess a simple mistake on my end.
Pretty sure acf_register_block
isn’t available just yet unless someone else here has any insight? Either way, I’d love a sneak peek if you guys are looking for beta testers. I really do think this will be a game changer for Gutenberg.
Looking forward to checking the feature out, especially with the new Yoast features we are releasing 🙂
That is *really* not clear from the article. They talk about version 5 (but no clue to which PRO version that corresponds to) and the whole section about registering blocks is written in the present. Oh well.
Can ACF Pro users help test this Gutenberg block option? We really need to prep for this new exciting feature!

I have the same question! I would really like to prepare with this new function. 🙂
Edit: so I installed the Early access version of ACF (non-pro) and it doesn’t have the acf_register_block
function either. So it hasn’t dropped yet in both versions. I really though it was already there when I was reading the article 🙁
Any word from the developers when this is going to land?
has anyone contacted support? https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/contact/
I personally would not expect ACF to be fully compatible with gutenburg until it is merged into core.
Anyone have an update on this? I tried contacting support a couple of days ago, but no response.
I bought recently ACF 5 PRO for use with gutentberg but for me it isn’t not compatible right now. Support did’t answer on my ticket:(
It’s not implemented for public release, see: https://github.com/elliotcondon/acf/issues/622#issuecomment-412728241
Thanks MikeX for the link.
I hope this option will find its way to implementation soon. I think this will be a solution for so many.
Day after Gutenberg has been released into WordPress 5.0 core and I still don’t see a block option inside the field groups?
Any follow ups to this would be much appreciated!
I’m still not seeing this in ACF 5.7.8 in pro.
Is it something likely to be resolved soon?
Thanks in advance
I found the function in Alpha 3 of 5.8 and it’s buggy AF. Unless there is a Christmas Miracle, I don’t see it being available soon. Time to dive into coding the new blocks from scratch.
Pretty disappointed that this wasn’t ready to go upon the launch of Gutenberg and WP 5.0.
The wait is over, you can play around 🙂 Works really easy!

5.8 hasn’t been released just yet, it should be soon. You can download and test the beta version if you log in to your account.
WOW, I did not see there’s a beta available!! I can confirm that ACF Blocks for Gutenberg are working now!!!
