As it turns out, tables can be transformed to have vertical headings using some CSS trickery, as this minimal example proves.
This is what I got the repeater field to look like using 35 lines of CSS:
It remains fully functional (adding, deleting and re-ordering rows) without touching any of the JavaScript. Here’s the code (inserted into functions.php
). There’s undoubtedly room for improvement, but it seems to work quite well so far.
