Updating post modified date via front end form

Followed solution here (https://support.advancedcustomfields.com/forums/topic/updating-post-modified-date/) to update/show the_modified_date on a front end custom post type form, but the date only updates when saving from the back end. Not seeing any errors on the page – does anyone know anything else that could typically cause issues with updating this info?
