Tweaking input UI for create-terms/multi-select fields

Hello,

I am using ACF to create additional input fields for custom taxonomies. Because some of these fields will be administered on the phone, I want to make tagging as simple as possible. Most of my taxonomy fields allow for CREATE TERMS and MULTI-SELECT and I created a front-end page using acf_form.

I was wondering if there was a way to “hijack” the UI to allow for in-line tagging as opposed to having to click the little “+” symbol on hover and be presented with a popup.

I know ACF already uses Select2, and I like the example they have on their page:
