Set Featured Image from a CPT custom field

Hi, I’m working on a site that was previously built by another developer. They used Custom Fields for a lot of content. Unfortunately, they didn’t just use the Featured Image field that WordPress gives us.

I want to copy all of the images in the custom field artist_picture into the featured image.

I was looking at the Auto Post Thumbnail plugin which worked well for blog posts on the site. The pro version works with CPTs but the images aren’t in the post content (nothing is), everything is in custom fields.
