Selected Checkbox becomes deselected on Value change

I have a website with over 600 posts. Every post has an ACF Checkbox field with a few options selected. If I were to change the value of one of these options, the checkbox becomes unselected across all posts.

Is there a way to update the values of an ACF Checkbox field without losing the selection?

I am not (yet) a pro user of ACF.
