Overriding options in child theme

I am using ACF in a theme as a plugin and have a php file to load in the custom fields options it sits in inc/custom-fields.php and is referenced in the function.php file.

However, is there a way to override this in a child theme, i tried copying over the inc folder with the file and referencing it in the child themes function.php file but it had no effect.

Is this possible?

You need to use a function to create the field group and the override that function in the child theme.
