Order by date field past/future (not actual day)

I am looking to query for ALL posts of a custom type and have them come out first ordered by all posts which have a date field assigned in the future (sub-sorted alphabetically) then secondly all posts with date field in the past.

Note: The order of each future/past grouping of events should be alphabetically. Not ordered based on the actual date assigned to them.

Hoping to not have to do two queries.
