Need help sorting rows in a repeater field by date

I’m looking for a little help since I’ve been spinning my wheels trying to figure this out for a while.

I have a repeater field called special_announcements

Within that repeater are two fields announcement_date (date_picker) and announcement_title (text).

I’m trying to get all rows for that repeater but have them sorted by month so that I can display all special_announcements by month in their own divs. I just can’t seem to figure out how to query the repeater and loop for each month.

Any ideas? Tutorials?
