Is it possible to convert a single image field to a gallery

Hi there,

I currently have a site that is using a single image for a hero area but would like to change this to a gallery so it can become a slider. I am wondering if it’s possible to covert this field whilst preserving the images that are currently uploaded and using this field rather than add the additional gallery field and have to use an if statement to show the gallery instead if it’s got images.
