After I install the Flexible Content Field add-on (put in my plugin folder and activated it), nothing changed. I still can’t create multiple groups of metaboxes.
Do I need to activate the add-on? If so, how can I activate it? I don’t see any setting pages whatsoever.

Have you read the documentation on how the flexible field works?
It’s a field just like repeater field that you choose from the fieldtypes and then you put other fields inside it..
