Getting "Field Name" type validation on a Text field

What’s the best way to add validation to a specific Text field? More specifically the same “Single word, no spaces. Underscores and dashes allowed” validation that “Field Name” already has. Should I write my own custom field, use a plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/validated-field-for-acf/ or is there a better, recommended way?
