Edit/Delete controls not visible if image deleted from multimedia library

If a file attached using ACF’s image field has been deleted from the media library, the edit/delete (pencil/x) controls aren’t visible. This affects Chrome and possibly other browsers. As a work-around, I was able to log in with Firefox and see an empty square with the correct edit/delete options.
