Changing post order in relationship field from frontend with Ajax?

Imagine creating something like a Pinterest board where each card is a post in an relationship field and allowing logged in users to rearrange the order of said cards via drag & drop from the frontend. Ideally, this would use Ajax to update post order in the relationship field in the backend to provide the best experience when there are lots of posts in the field.

How would you go around making this work? I’m happy to fill in the details if someone could point me in the right direction(s).
