Advice regarding flexible and repeater fields size/subfields count

The biggest flexible field I’ve ever built up to today, counts about 150 subfields (3 layouts with 50 fields each circa) and works wonderfully. Problem is, every time I need to save its contents, it does take some time – considerably more compared to other smaller fields.

Given I’m planning on building a flexible field that may end up containing 300 fields (with messages, conditions, and everything you can imagine in that) and wonder if it is a good idea to create such gianormous field, if it is especially safe and/or if should be wise to spit all of this apart in some way. Has anyone build something this huge and can share his own experience/advice?
