Adding WP Nav Menus to Relationship field

Hi all, I have scoured and could not find a way to add WP Nav Menus to the relationship field. There are some old plugins out there but none of them work with the latest ACF Pro (6+). We’re pretty adept at writing code so if ACF devs or the community can give some initial pointers we can try our hand at some filters/actions and share back here. Thank you.
