Adding fields to flexible layouts to theme from child theme

I have stumbled on this post: https://support.advancedcustomfields.com/forums/topic/adding-additional-layout-to-flexible_content-field-in-child-theme/ but the solutions don’t seem to be working for me. Is there something I am missing that I am not getting?
