I just did a quick test and at 100 wysiwig fields on the page I get a popup that says
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue.
2 to 3 times before the page finishes loading with the delay setting turned off.
The page is much faster and I get no warnings about the script with the delay turned on.
Also, when scrolling the page with this number of fields there is a noticeable lag in page scrolling. With the delay turned on this lag vanishes until you’ve clicked in many of the editors to activate them.
It seems to have solved a lot of the issues that I was seeing.
