It seems that the format I used for $argsar needs to be changed to

$argsar = array (
        'post_type' => 'auctionroom',
        'meta_query' => array(
                  array(
                        'key'     => 'auctionroom_username',
                        'compare' => '=',
                        'value'   => $auctionroomname
                    )
                )
        );
