I would use a switch statement, they are cleaner when you have many possiblities
$steps = get_sub_field('home_steps_steps_id');
switch ($steps) {
case 1:
// do something
break;
case 2:
// do something
break;
case 3:
// do something
break;
case 4:
// do something
break;
case 5:
// do something
break;
}
