I have moved this comment into it’s own topic as it did not relate to the previous.
When importing via WP’s XML, all the ID’s will change – including taxonomy terms.
This means that any stored data referring to a taxonomy term will not work.
To correctly migrate a site, please use a DB export / import approach or use the ‘migrate DB Pro’ plugin. This will keep all the ID’s the same and solve the issue
