I use the Page Link field quite often for banners / slideshows / call-to-action buttons etc… and it works great as it lets the user choose to link to another post / page without manually entering the url…
BUT almost everytime i’ve set it up i’ve also needed the option to choose or enter an external link! – Why not have a simple option for an external link… it would make things sooo much easier then having to have two fields… one for Internal Link and one for External Link…
Do you think this is worthy? I’d guess it would be pretty easy to do?

I’m glad to see that this might make it into a future update.
I have had a need for this also, currently I use a repeater with text sub-fields for link name, title and the URL.
I’ll echo support for this as well. It’s really common for me to set up a ‘quick links’ list which mostly is internal pages, but one or two links must be external. That one link lessens to overall usability if I make it a generic text field or have to have multiple ‘internal’ and ‘external’ fields. Something like the default WP link dialog would be excellent.

Please, can we change the behavior of the page link to be more like the native WP link selector? There was a plug in that did this brilliantly:

Unfortunately, it broke during an update and hasn’t been fixed (not counting on the fork someone made). Depending on a plugin for this type of functionality puts me (us) in a position where clients will become upset when their site breaks because of a ACF or WP update. Please add this to the core page link.

Found this thread just now by googling this exact thing. Would love to see this added as I run into the issue all the time and hate having to create separate radio fields with conditional logic in order to display either page link or text field. This would be very helpful.

Thanks for your efforts Emrl, I will take a look. But we’ve been down the path before with similar plug-ins, where an ACF update breaks this functionality and the developers either don’t update their plugin, abandon it or take a long time.
Having client websites rely on such plugins can be disastrous for a feature that should be built into ACF.
Still hoping this gets built in, even though this thread is years old…
