Post Object and Conditional Statement

Hi... I am using the Post Object field type to display a list of posts in the sidebar on certain pages on my site. I am also using a conditional statement to show the list of posts and surrounding div if the custom field (post object) exists. If I remove posts from the Post Object Custom Field my conditional statement still thinks the custom field exists even though it has no values? Is there a better way to handle conditional statements for the Post Object custom field? I can't see any custom fields being added to the page like a text field custom field would do?

This may be a bug with the post object field.
